Young, Lester (Willis)
(27 ago.1909, Woodville, Miss., EE.UU.–15 mar. 1959, Nueva York, N.Y.).

Saxofonista tenor estadounidense. En 1936 se incorporó a la banda de Count Basie y fue reconocido como el principal nuevo estilista en el instrumento. Se consideran clásicas las grabaciones que hizo con Basie y la cantante Billie Holiday en grupos pequeños a partir de finales de la década de 1930. Holiday le dio el apodo de "Pres ("presidente del saxofón). Las armonías sutiles de Young y la independencia rítmica poco convencional influyeron tanto a músicos del bebop como del cool-jazz; su tono apacible y su lirismo etéreo fueron la fuente de inspiración para toda una escuela de interpretación del saxofón en el jazz.
